Hi all
Well, waitressing is fun. Really didn't think I'd be quiting my teaching job originaly for waitressing but it is giving me the off time I need to go for castings and shoots.
I have been meeting some amazingly interesting people some of whom have intense conversations with me in another language (usually Dutch or Spanish) with me just nodding my head saying 'I'll bring you a menu then?' At least it's giving us the cash we need for now.
My first audition was the first Monday after our arrival. It was in Obs and seriously difficult to find with Warren and I about to kill the Garmin if it gave us another turn up the wrong end of a one way road.... that was such a learning curve for us.... Cape Town has so many one way roads.
Anyway, I made it in time to find everyone warming up like dancers.... So as not to look like a complete outsider, I joined.... bending and stretching for no reason...
The whole audition was in mime and movement and was more of a workshop. It felt like I was back in one of Linda-Louise's movement drama classes.
I enjoyed every moment and realised half way through that the cast members who were working with us in the audition were all deaf.... hence the whole show will be in mime.
The audition consisted of a lot of group work in mime which was so much fun, then.... we got to the final activity, a solo piece in mime.... we were told that the female lead in the show is super feminine and she gets spat on my the men in the office.... she the goes through a transformation and becomes more masculine. We had to depict the transformation in mime or dance and how it affects the woman. Well.... that brought out the wierd..... Some of the women got so expressive they started miming ripping their breasts off... very odd and uncomfortable.
Needless to say, I unfortunately did not make the cut, I think my more literal expression was not the flavour of the day ;)
So far I have received an email for an advert to be shot next Wednesday and a short film for next Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Hopefully I can prove myself there and get more work.
There are a ton of shoots going on daily in Cape Town, with traffic being blocked off. I really hope I can be the cause soon ;) but I am super positive and moving forward!
Love to you all
Inge
